Technology and my websites and designs.

The software I use is nearly all open source and freely available. The operating system is Linux and the software includes: R with RStudio (statistical software), FreeCAD, Blender, GIMP, prusaslicer, MYSQL, Apache web servers, and PERL.

My current development box is older than many of my students: a 2006 Sun Microsystems Ultra40m2. I have been using this workstation since 2008. For many years this workstation served the webpages I produced as well. Those are now all hosted on Virtual Machines on the College's hardware. I have a ZFS file server that stores all of the data and images for the webpages I produce.

I did have some 'brittle plastic' issues with the memory cooler fan assemblies. I designed my own replacements, printed them on a 3d printer and they are working great.

Most of my current work on this system is FreeCad, Blender, and SSH into file server and web servers. It has two dual core Opteron 2224 processors (3.2 ghz), 24 gb of ram, and a NVIDIA GTX 1650super video card. This machine is running Ubuntu 24, although it started on Solaris, then Opensolaris, and even Windows 10 for a short while. It can hold up to 8 SATA hard drives.

Going back a little further... this is my retired Blade1000. I wrote my dissertation on this beauty. Two 1.2 ghz ultrasparc III cu chips and 8 gigabytes of ram. Not bad for the previous century.

I use a Microsoft Surface Book laptop running Windows 11 for day to day work and travel.
